My work is mostly functional wares for the home. I believe that a home filled with foraged, hand made, recycled, reused and gifted items makes it warm and full. The clay body is at the center and forefront of my work. I leave surfaces unglazed and textured. I wedge in sand and grog to create pieces reminiscent of the earth from which they came.

Fire is a key element, it transforms the clay, washes the pot in wood ash glazes and is connection through out the entire firing. I hope my pots brings joy in to your daily life.

A note about wood firing:

A large portion of my work is wood fired. This means its carefully loaded into a wood kiln and fired for several days to weeks. Constantly feed wood and closely watched, this process requires a community of potters to come together. The environment inside the kiln is dynamic and volatile - this creates unique surfaces. Pots go into the fire unglazed and come out with glaze make from the ash of wood, not all pots survive this intense firing but I think it makes the ones who do survive all that more special. For thousands of years humans have been firing pots with fire. I continue this in my practice. I think the pots that come from a wood kiln are simply magic.
